Smudging and Clearing Space

The first time I smelled the smoke of palo santo I felt an odd sense of coming home…

When I first moved to San Francisco I came across an adorable shop called Foggy Notion. Alissa, owner of the shop, carries hand made, local items from hand salves to beautiful hand made bags. While I was still in my mode of “simple living” I strayed away from any material item I didn’t necessarily need, and instead found myself in love with a tightly bound cluster of white sage. Alissa was sweet enough to burn some for me after which I fell in love.

Months later I was walking in the Mission and found myself upon a street vendor selling crystals and other eclectic items, one of which was palo santo. I lingered and went back and forth as to whether or not I should buy anything but ended up leaving empty handed.

The God Box

I’ll be the first to admit I have an overly analytical mind that sometimes just won’t shut up 😉 At times it can be helpful, especially at work or when I’m planning a trip (which I am totally doing at the moment), but for the most part I tend to over do it.

That’s where the God Box comes into play…

Tosha Silver mentions a God Box and Gabrielle Bernstein has something similar she calls the Holy Triangle.  I love this concept. It involves faith, prayer, and the willingness to let go.

CHOICE

CHOICE.

So often we forget how powerful our human brains are. In every moment it is working to analyze, compare, weigh every option, our next move, all while thinking 5 steps ahead figuring out what our next meal should be!

In every single moment it is thinking – SOMETHING.

How often is it that we choose to fill our brains with complex scenarios related to work, relationship, health, or the future?

Timing

I am often amazed by timing.  To back up a bit…

All this week, beginning Sunday evening, I sensed a growing ball of anxiety starting in the pit of my stomach and slowly rising toward my chest. My breaths are short and shallow, and I find myself identifying more and more with a certain story in my head.

It started with worrying about a single event happening Friday. Then it lead to worrying about having visitors in town and whether or not I even have the mental capacity to handle all that is going on. Then it leads to future tripping about everything and anything that may have an impact to my health and well being. Yea… having had adrenal fatigue can get you hyper aware of stress…

Then I receive an email from a subscription I have with The Journal by Kevin Rose (it’s free by the way) and came across this quote at the very end of the email:

Sit in silence

“Sit in silence. It’s the last thing you want to do when you’re anxious and have so many thoughts, feelings, and emotions racing through your mind and chest but just trust me…. sit in silence. From this place of silence you will recognize the truth of who you are. The answer lies within you if you dig deep enough.”

I swear sometimes this is the hardest thing to do when you’re stressed, anxious, fearful, or even strung out with “happiness”. I say happiness in quotes because often times I find that when your ego is equally as identified with a high state based on the earthly plane that too creates an imbalance which causes a form of anxiety within the body. At least that is what I’ve come to find when my state of happiness is attached to a form of this earthly plane and not from within my deeper self.

So how do I re-center myself and find peace? How do I find the place so deep, yet reachable, within me that cannot be touched from any person, event, or even emotion?

A little bit more

A few fun facts about me:

  • Almond milk lattes are genius concoctions that make my heart skip a beat
  • Peet’s has the best almond milk lattes and trust me, I’ve tried $10 lattes from the hippest of places and I still go back to Peet’s
  • Soy matcha lattes from Turret Coffee might just rival an almond milk latte (BONUS: they even add a spoonful of sweetened adzuki beans!)
  • Feeling a warm summer breeze makes me feel at home
  • I’m Korean American
  • I have a deep love of ART and fell hard into photography. I particularly love capturing the heart and soul of people, hence the portraits you see above
  • If I had to relate to any “lifestyle” of eating I love the Primal lifestyle Mark Sisson promotes and eat gluten free. It has changed my life!
  • Farmers market every single Sunday
  • While I was a heavy crossfitter in the past I now know to mix it up with pilates, YOGA, spin, and being out in nature. All thanks to a back injury
  • Adrenal fatigue is a REAL THING. And trust me… it sucks. It hit in 2015 and took a few years to fully recover. I have to say, I learned so much in the process which has led me to a serve a greater purpose
  • 95% of my mornings start off with meditation. Where is the other 5%? When life happens, which ironically is when you need meditation the most 😉

There’s so much more… and  because as human beings we are such complex beings it’s just impossible to try and sum it up in a single blog post! I also recognize we are constantly growing, stretching and learning which makes this journey so beautiful and fun.

That said, I hope to share a bit more in each blog post through every a-ha and beautiful life moment.

In wellness.
