Friday Focus – 1/6/17

The new year is here already and it’s crazy to me how fast the holidays just flew by this year. The holiday lights are coming down in the neighborhood and I can feel the city settling into it’s new groove.

Over and over again this week I keep coming back to the theme of owning your own happiness.

For example, as if it were a test, yesterday I was speaking to a customer service agent and I was taken aback (almost speechless) by the cut offs, short answers, and overall tone of this person. Despite all this I decided not to wallow in anger and reminded myself that we all own our own happiness.

Happy This Year

I came across this book unexpectedly. To be honest when I saw the front cover of the book and read the title I didn’t think it was a book I’d be able to relate to. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s important to work on your happiness but it just all looked… so cheezy… 😉

And then I picked it up anyway and flipped through the pages. I was hooked. It was simple to understand, there were personal stories that as a reader I could relate to, and the way in which Will Bowen explained the principles made it that much easier to really take in and apply it to my life immediately!

Why We Get Offended and What To Do About It

If there’s one thing that makes the human relationship (no matter how light or deep) more complicated is the fact that we are fully capable of being offended – very easily I might add  😉

No matter how silly the statement, oftentimes the other person has no idea you’ve been offended! And yet, as humans we’ve grown up in a world full of walls, words, experiences, and wounds that would ultimately leave us a little bruised. It’s no wonder we keep our distance from those that have tendencies to trigger us.

While there are a variety of coping mechanisms, I’ve come to learn one particular method (or two) that helps defuse the situation rather quickly.

How I Recovered from Adrenal Fatigue Pt. 2

In an earlier post I talked about what adrenal fatigue is and provided a backstory as to how I was living my life prior to adrenal fatigue. While I thought everything was going well, the ancient wisdom within knew this way of living was unsustainable and untrue to how life is really meant to be lived.

How did I even know I had adrenal fatigue? It was first of all – the fatigue. There was absolutely no energy to do even a 20 minute walk to the nearby park! This drove me insane at the time for someone who was used to being extremely active with daily crossfit workouts and going hiking on the weekends.

What was also debilitating was the deep sense of anxiety that I had. To be honest, whenever the bouts of anxiety occurred I became so scared because I couldn’t recognize myself for feeling so lost, vulnerable, and weak.

Generally experiencing adrenal fatigue made me feel as if I was wiped clean of any power I thought I had and any sense of who I thought I was.

CHOICE

CHOICE.

So often we forget how powerful our human brains are. In every moment it is working to analyze, compare, weigh every option, our next move, all while thinking 5 steps ahead figuring out what our next meal should be!

In every single moment it is thinking – SOMETHING.

How often is it that we choose to fill our brains with complex scenarios related to work, relationship, health, or the future?

Sit in silence

“Sit in silence. It’s the last thing you want to do when you’re anxious and have so many thoughts, feelings, and emotions racing through your mind and chest but just trust me…. sit in silence. From this place of silence you will recognize the truth of who you are. The answer lies within you if you dig deep enough.”

I swear sometimes this is the hardest thing to do when you’re stressed, anxious, fearful, or even strung out with “happiness”. I say happiness in quotes because often times I find that when your ego is equally as identified with a high state based on the earthly plane that too creates an imbalance which causes a form of anxiety within the body. At least that is what I’ve come to find when my state of happiness is attached to a form of this earthly plane and not from within my deeper self.

So how do I re-center myself and find peace? How do I find the place so deep, yet reachable, within me that cannot be touched from any person, event, or even emotion?
