When Things Don’t Go Your Way

What do YOU do when things don’t go your way?

Do you go inside your cave?

Throw a pity party?

Netflix & pizza?

Call a friend and head to the wine bar?

Notice how all of these options, don’t actually GIVE you real options to move you forward in life.

So what are you to do?

Burnout and Adrenal Fatigue Coach, Seattle Stress Management Coach

What WILL give you real options to move the needle forward?

STOP.

Yes, that’s right….

STOP ALL YOUR THINKING.

Your thinking is what’s causing you to netflix, wine, overeat, or god forbid do something you might regret (like firing off that email, or texting your friend).

Is what you’re thinking about really helping you?

What thoughts are you having about what happened?

Notice how negative and not serving they are.

What can you think instead?

If you were truly taking the seat of being the director of your life…

Would you really be thinking those thoughts?

Once you realize you are the one in control of your own destiny you suddenly start to get really serious about what you think about. About what you say inside your head.

Because what you think about leads you to feel a certain way… and when you feel a certain way you ACT a certain way.

Repeat that a couple of times and are you that surprised at where you are today? Where you’ll be a year from now?

So the next time something doesn’t go your way….

STOP.

Stop thinking thoughts that don’t serve you, and start thinking in a way that will actually get you REAL results.

It’s OK To Be Sad

How long should you feel sad?

Too many times I see people outsmarting their way out of sadness.

Adrenal Fatigue and Burnout Coach, Emotional Management Coach

They understand they don’t “need” to feel sad but their bodies are saying, “yes, you do”.

And that’s where the argument begins.

When your body isn’t aligned with what you think, suddenly there’s resistance.

And what does resistance bring?

Suffering. Unnecessary stress.

While there comes a point where we begin to indulge in apathy and should look toward the future, without properly processing emotions and thoughts you will only continue to bring the past into the present.

So what needs to happen?

Feel it. All of it.

Let every tear roll…

Let the ache in your throat and heart expand.

And listen.

Listen to what your body is trying to tell you.

Need more comfort?

A day off?

More tea?

More…. love?

Only you have the answer within, but how will you ever know if you don’t stop to listen?

So if you’re going through a rough patch… no matter how big or small…

… give yourself some grace.

Love yourself a little harder,

because it’s all going to be just fine.

You are already just fine.

Interview with Mia Danielle of Minimalism + Intentional Living

I had the lovely opportunity to be interviewed by the Mia Danielle of Minimalism + Intentional Living.

As a person who strives to be minimal, to meet a minimalist who also shares my passion for neuroscience was my idea of an incredibly fun time!

I share my story about my greatest teacher, what adrenal fatigue is, and how to see any situation for what it really is.

In conclusion, circumstances are never the problem, it is our thoughts about it that cause us massive unnecessary suffering and stress in our lives.

Taking A Break

Maybe it’s the transition to the holidays, the hour we gained, or simply “end of year” syndrome… and you’re thinking about that long needed alone time. Perhaps a week or long weekend where you do absolutely nothing. Possibly escape to the woods… go on a spa date with just yourself and a good book. But how hard are you on yourself when it comes to taking that much needed break? Do you feel guilty, shame, or anxiety even around taking a break?

Stress Management Coach, Burnout and Adrenal Fatigue

So many people feel that if they miss the notifications, whether from email, text, direct message, social media, or facebook groups, they are missing out on something important.

But if all those things were “important” then where does your sanity rank on the totem pole? Or how about your health, or time with loved ones? Or heck, time alone to truly find your center?

I’ve seen too many people push away the most important thing they need to actually start feeling better, and that’s this – TIME.

And this is where YOU get creative because here’s the thing….

Some people need alone time.

Some people need time with loved ones.

Some people need time to simply PLAY.

Some people need time to meditate through baking, golfing, reading, etc.

Some people need time to organize their life.

But only you know what’s best for YOU.

So if you know deep down you need the time… the break…

Take it.

Don’t let another week or month go by where you push and strain to make it until the weekend.

When you push too hard that’s when you reach burnout or god forbid adrenal fatigue; that’s when other issues start to realize themselves into an overeating or overdrinking problem.

So, don’t be too hard on yourself. Taking the break is an investment and you will reap the benefits ten-fold when you take it at the right time.

Why Hope Is Not A Good Strategy

Hope is such a pretty word isn’t it?

Or how about “I wish…”

But what’s missing when we say something such as, “I hope…?”

The Art Of Public Speaking

Who doesn’t have to speak in public?

No really, if you think about it… we all have to engage in some form of public speaking on a daily basis.

But what if you have to speak publicly for a living?

What if you need to present to the C-Suite on a weekly basis?

What if you need to talk with and encourage and motivate your team members on a DAILY basis?

Seattle Public Speaking and Anxiety Coach

I came across this wonderful book, The Art of Public Speaking by Dale Carnegie and Joseph Berg Esenwein, and I had to share some of my golden nuggets.

While it doesn’t compare to reading the book… it might bring you some insights as you prepare to go into your next meeting later today or even this week. Here it is:

It is sheer egotism to fill your mind with thoughts of self when the greater thing is there – truth.
If the theater caught fire you could rush the stage and shout directions to the audience without any self-consciousness, for the importance of what you were saying would drive all fear thoughts out of your mind.
Have the first few sentences worked out completely so that you may not be troubled in the beginning to find words. Know your subject better than your hearers know it, and you have nothing to fear.
Overconfidence is bad, but to tolerate premonitions of failure is worse.
If you believe you will fail, there is no hope for you. You will.
Rid yourself of this “I am a poor worm in the dust idea”. You are a god, with infinite capabilities. “All things are ready if the mind be so.”

Take a deep breath, relax, and begin in the quiet conversational tone as though you were speaking to one large friend.

The bravest no fear, but they do not yield to it.
In your audience slice some victory for you and the cause you represent. Go with it.

and this is the one I love the most:

And remember that your audience is infinitely more important than you, the truth is more important than the both of you, because it is eternal.

Sure there are the jitters, but the jitters only get worse because of the story you are telling yourself in your mind.

Get good and telling the truth, and then you become unstoppable.
