Speak It Out Loud

Oftentimes we think through solutions, problems, worries, past/future events in our minds, but in doing so what we don’t realize is that we begin to ruminate and voice our thoughts (and God forbid our worst nightmares) in ways we would never talk to our family and friends.

A long time secret I’ve shared with as many people as I could is simple, yet effective – speak it out loud

Say it out loud! Rationalize, debate, worry, do whatever it is you would typically “say” to yourself inside your head.

What you’ll quickly realize is:

  • You always speak to yourself in a more calm, soothing, objective way than you would inside your head
  • You begin to realize once you speak it aloud once, it’s typically rare you repeat yourself again and again. In you mind, it’s much too easy to think something over 100 times and get no where
  • You are solution oriented instead of repeating a problem over and over again
  • You speak to yourself you would a friend or family member
  • Things aren’t as bad when you bring your thoughts out into the open instead of inside your head

In a sense, you’ll quickly realize just how silly we can get in our heads.

Trusting The Season

What if we were in a season for a reason?

Have you ever had those moments in your life where you wonder, “Why is this happening to me? Why do I feel this way? Or, What’s going on? When did Life get so hard!”

If so you may be in what is called a Season.

We all go through seasons. Sometimes we’re in the valley and sometimes we’re at the peak of the mountain top, and other times we’re in transition. Wherever we are, as humans we tend to gravitate toward the peak of the mountain top and unfortunately most often we forget that seasons are there for a reason.

If you think about the times in your life where you learned the most or where you grew the most it was probably after a period of hardship – the valley.

Ironically when we’re in the valley we’re too busy being in anguish or trying to resist or fix what’s going on to see the bigger picture instead of asking ourselves, “What’s the lesson here? What is the Universe trying to tell me?”.

What if instead we looked at life with curiosity and we looked at ourselves in a more loving way and trusted the season. What if we just relaxed and trusted that we were in a Season for a reason?

Resisting the path only makes things harder.

After all, when we look back at our lives don’t we always look back with a twinkle in our eye and say to ourselves, “I’m glad I learned that then.”?

What Causes Suffering?

Just remember, it’s not that stress, worry or fear is bad, it’s how you perceive these to affect your life that is causing suffering.

There is a purpose behind the fear, stress and worry.

What is it trying to tell you and can you accept and acknowledge the purpose lovingly so that you can further disengage the suffering caused in your mind?

Every small discomfort and trigger is a gift from the Universe. It is Life trying to further evolve you and ready you for your next big adventure.

Friday Focus – 4/27/18 {Trust The Path}

This week’s theme is trust.

So often I’ve heard over and over again how being confused about what next step to take can be one of the most frustrating experiences a human can go through. To feel lost, without purpose, and trying to get back up, but no North Star pointing the way. What’s a person to do?

At times like this I tell others, and myself, to trust the path you’re on.

Just trust it. Every discomfort, from the uncomfortable emotions to all the triggers, is for a bigger perspective we just can’t see yet.

I’d like to think of these moments as a gift from the Universe. As if God is saying, “let’s see if you can tackle this one” so that we can evolve to begin the next chapter.

Sometimes we need to shed a few unnecessary and un-serving layers within our psyche to finally see the path, and unfortunately this is going to take as long as it needs.

But what we have always is trust. When we trust we become open, and when we are open we become lighter, and with this lightness of our minds we open our awareness enough to have true sight about the situation.

And with this we can begin to lessen our grip on control and breathe in a sigh of relief that things are unfolding for our betterment, and our focus can be to see things with curiosity instead of fear.

Afterall, through this curiosity we just may see the ah-ha…

Life is 50/50

If we understood that there are peaks and there are valleys, and that life is never always perfect, then we can simply allow the “bad” things to play it’s course throughout our lives.

Oftentimes, we suffer through the “bad” times because we assume life shouldn’t be so hard or that our current unhappiness is wrong.

But really, life is 50/50. If we can accept the fact that there will be good days and there will be bad days, it lessens our grip on the control we think we have over outside circumstances.

Further, it allows us to grow the inner peace we always have control over no matter what is going on outside of us.

Life is 50/50. How will you handle the 50 that makes you uncomfortable?

Visualizing Negative Outcomes

Are you the type of person that typically visualizes the negative outcome first? And then you wonder in a very frustrated way, “why the heck do I do that and drive myself crazy?!”.

First, give yourself compassion. There must have been a reason for your deeper more primitive self to visualize negative outcomes as a way to protect yourself.

Second, every time you do this just become aware of what your mind visualized. Oftentimes we come down hard on ourselves for doing something and we don’t reward our self for recognizing the very act itself which is an important step in grooving a new, more positive neural pathway towards mindfulness.

Third, recognize there are numerous outcomes. And in the numerous outcomes recognize which you tend to gravitate toward and ask yourself, “Does it always come true?”.

Most often than not it never does.

And in following these steps, realizing your tendency should bring you huge relief, because that’s all it is – a tendency that never comes true!

Now, to get more technical, understand how your brain projects the image or feeling. Notice if there are any sounds or voices; and notice which part of your brain they come from. Is the image always projected in the same place? Is the image in color? Are you in the image? Where are the sensations in your body?

Whenever you visualize negative outcomes, you are always projecting them from a certain place in your mind, and this is because you’ve created that neural pathway. Again, this should bring you huge relief because for the most part, that’s all it is – a neural pathway that you’ve created by repeating an action over and over again.

Fortunately, with NLP you can change the projection when it happens. Shrink the image, lower the volume, throw it out into the Universe! Use your same powerful mind that created the image to counteract the image.

If you’re the type of person that visualizes negative outcomes first I’m here to tell you it’s ok. You’re not alone and it’s not a problem with you or your brain. It’s just a matter of repeated actions, and the very same (powerful) mind that is creating the negative visualization can create an equally more logical visualization.

Rapid Healing From Anything

With adrenal fatigue I mentioned that true, rapid healing came with letting go; with accepting the situation and beginning to notice all the joy that was present in my life. Another way to put it, to surrender to life and say aloud, “You know what? I don’t even care anymore. I’m going to live life with this and make the most of it anyway.”

Ironically, the moment I did that I started to heal. Or maybe… I began to see my life the way it already was – full of magic.

Recently I became reacquainted of this very principle and realized, whether it’s adrenal fatigue or any other situation that is causing immense discomfort in your life, this very act of surrendering is the very key to introducing rapid healing into your life.

No matter what you are going through, for one second, one breath, remember there are other things happening aside from whatever it is you spend 90% of your day thinking about and wishing could be different.

In that one breath you begin to notice the stillness. The joy. The little moments. The birds. The trees swaying with the rhythm of the wind. You begin to notice life is much MORE than that one thing we so wish to change. And that life was always filled with this magic – we were just too busy with our discomfort to notice.

When we take that moment and begin to notice life outside of the discomfort, we begin to allow for space. This space will prove to be your best friend because you realize the more you give into this space, the more freedom you have from the stickiness of just how real that discomfort it.

Now what I just implied can be interpreted as, “the discomfort isn’t real”, but what I’m trying to say is oftentimes, it is our thought or relationship to the discomfort that is causing the MOST pain.

Funny how our brains operate isn’t it? This is why I believe mindfulness and coaching is so important. Sanity is everything!

So, what does that one breath represent to you? What do you notice when you step back and notice the little things?

Here’s to more space and a better relationship with our discomfort.

The Choice Is Yours
